What Is GOB LED? Why It's the Only Choice for Luxury Indoor Installations
Mazhar Elahi

GOB LED technology is one of the most significant advances in fine-pitch display manufacturing of the past decade — and it remains poorly understood outside specialist AV circles. This matters because the choice between GOB and standard LED at the same pixel pitch is the single most consequential specification decision for any luxury indoor installation.
What GOB Means: Glue on Board
GOB stands for Glue on Board. It refers to a post-assembly process in which a transparent epoxy resin is applied over the face of a completed LED module, filling the spaces between individual LED chips and the PCB surface to create a completely sealed, flat display surface. The resin is UV-cured to optical clarity, leaving the module visually identical to a standard LED module but fundamentally different in its surface characteristics.
On a standard LED module, the LED chips protrude slightly from the PCB surface. The spaces between them are open — susceptible to dust accumulation, moisture ingress, and mechanical damage from contact. The micro-ridges created by the chip geometry also affect the visual character of the display at close viewing distances, creating a slight textured quality in the black areas of the image.

Why GOB Surface Protection Matters in Luxury Environments
In a luxury private residence, a five-star hotel, or a premium members club, a display panel is not simply hardware behind a controlled barrier. It is a surface in an inhabited environment, subject to the full range of interactions that occur when people live, work, or socialise in close proximity to technology.
Impact resistance: the epoxy layer protects LED chips from direct contact. Moisture resistance: the sealed surface prevents cleaning products, condensation, and ambient humidity from penetrating the module. Visual uniformity: the filled surface creates greater consistency in the black areas of the image. Dust resistance: the sealed surface does not accumulate dust in the inter-chip spaces, reducing maintenance requirements.
GOB vs Standard LED: A Direct Comparison
At equivalent pixel pitch, a GOB panel costs approximately 15–25% more than a standard panel. This premium buys: better durability, better close-viewing quality, lower long-term maintenance cost, and significantly greater suitability for environments where non-technical users interact with the display. In a luxury context where total project cost is already significant and replacement or repair is highly disruptive, the GOB premium is consistently the right investment decision.
GOB LED Specifications at MySigno
MySigno specifies P1.8 GOB as our standard for all luxury indoor residential and premium commercial installations. This pitch delivers pixel-perfect image quality at viewing distances from 1.8 metres, with the GOB surface protection ensuring durability, visual consistency, and maintenance efficiency over the full operating life of the installation. We do not offer standard (non-GOB) indoor LED panels for luxury environments — the specification is a point of principle, not a product option.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does GOB affect the colour or brightness of the display? A: Minimal effect — the epoxy resin used in quality GOB manufacturing is optically clear with less than 2% light reduction. Q: Can a non-GOB LED wall be upgraded to GOB? A: No. GOB is a factory manufacturing process applied during production — it cannot be applied retrospectively. Q: Is GOB available at all pixel pitches? A: GOB is most commonly available at P1.2 to P3. Q: What does MySigno include in its GOB LED wall installations? A: Every installation includes site survey, bespoke structural specification, installation by our own engineers, commissioning, and lifetime aftercare support.
